UCAT University Clinical Aptitude Test

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a computer-based entrance exam used by universities in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand for admission into medicine and dentistry programs. It assesses a candidate’s cognitive abilities, including logical reasoning, numerical skills, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making, while also testing speed and accuracy under pressure. The UCAT 2025 is a two-hour exam divided into four timed sections: Verbal Reasoning (44 questions in 22 minutes), Decision Making (35 questions in 37 minutes), Quantitative Reasoning (36 questions in 26 minutes), and Situational Judgement (69 questions in 26 minutes). A key update in 2025 is the removal of the Abstract Reasoning section, shifting greater focus toward real-world problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Each section is designed to evaluate specific competencies, such as interpreting written information, analyzing data, solving numerical problems, and demonstrating professional judgment in realistic scenarios. The first three sections are scored between 300 and 900, giving a total score range of 900 to 2700, while the Situational Judgement section is graded in bands from 1 (highest) to 4 (lowest). The test is strictly timed, and candidates cannot return to previous sections, making time management a critical factor for success. Preparation for UCAT requires consistent practice, familiarity with question patterns, and the ability to balance speed with accuracy. With no negative marking, strategic guessing is encouraged, and regular mock tests help build confidence and improve performance.
